R&B Legend Marva Holiday Featuring Joseph Chambers Release “To Love Somebody”

Inviting bluesy and slow-moving rhythm. I love her voice and the deep reverberation of the voice is what gave me chills. I’ve been told that’s a good thing.

One of the best R&B versions I’ve ever heard is found in this rendition of “To Love Somebody,” originally written and recorded by the Bee Gees. Contemporary R&B artist Marva Holiday, known for her work with the Northern Soul Movement, is memorizing with this version of such a famous song.

Best known to the world for her song “It’s Written All Over My Face,” Marva was born and raised in California. She began composing her own music at an early age and joined a touring version of a group called Bonnie & the Treasures. Holiday was a music major at Merritt College in Oakland CA and after a brief hiatus to have her first child she returned to the world of music and has long since shared her soulful voice with the world.

“One of my goals is to inspire older women,” says Holiday.“I will demonstrate that it IS possible to dust off one’s deferred dreams and ‘go for it.’ Age is nothing but a number. Making music, whether mine or that of others, energizes me. I will write and perform as long as there’s an audience.” ~Marva Holiday~

I was blown away with the velvety and smooth flowing vocals from both Marva and Joe. I loved the texture of the two vocals together. They make a great duo and the sound is beautiful.

This remake is the new beginning and new phase in a magnanimous and already firmly planted career that will excel Marva in this generation of music lovers. As the years went by and her career waned Marva focused on family and raising her children. Unknown to her she was becoming very popular in Europe in the ’70s in what was known as the “Northern Soul” movement. Her song from 1968 “It’s Written All Over My Face” had become very well known in Germany and the UK.

Featured with Marva on this rendition is legendary performer Joseph Chambers of the Chambers Brothers.

“This release marks my effort to bring such songs back,” says Holiday.”Joining me on the song is Joe Chambers, former lead singer, and songwriter of The Chambers Brothers, who recorded the ’60s rocker ‘Time.’ Joe fronts his own group in Los Angeles, The Joe Chambers Experience. His soulful voice is tailor-made for this song, which some say had been written for Otis Redding.”

She calls this “Part Two” and she knows all too well that it can be difficult for middle-aged female performers to return to a business that is fast-moving. But…I believe that Marva will bring back the class and the esteem that the soulful R&B has been missing.

Set to release an original composition of music in early 2020 called “Reflections,” Marva Holiday is catching her second wind in a time when her sound, her style, and her talents are well sought after. If you work in the music industry you know it can be a harsh and unfriendly world at times. Marva Holiday and Joe Chambers, with their signature vocals and years of experience, are ready to break open a new window in the industry.

Marva presents in the styles of Pop, Smooth Jazz, Easy Listening, Classic R&B, and Motown. Her music and style have been likened to artists such as Maria Muldaur, Phoebe Snow, Diana Ross, and Smokey Robinson.
