Lucky 13 with Will Muse

Without music I would be very bored.
Music is an outlet of self expression.
My music makes me feel unique.
I write the songs to connect and identify with people.
Support music because it is a unique and special art form.”

~ Will Muse

1. What was the first song you ever performed?

The first song I performed was “Let it Be” by the Beatles. I performed it at my fifth grade school talent show. “Let it Be” is a timeless classic.

2. What are your musical influences?

My musical influences are Guns N Roses, Prince, Aerosmith, Queen, Elton John, and The Beatles. The music that these artists have created is still very relevant in today’s world.

3. What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

Personal advice I would give to someone wanting to pursue a career in music would be to never give up and follow your dream. Be yourself and don’t let others change who you are.

4. If you had to do it all over again, would you still choose this career? Would you do anything differently?

If I had to do it all over again, I would absolutely choose this career. I would not change the career path that I am on, or do anything different. I feel like I’m on this journey for a reason.

5. How would you describe your music to someone that has never heard you before?

To someone who has never heard my music before, I would describe it as melodic, soulful, and within the pop-rock genre with a touch of blues.

6. As a child growing up, music surrounds us; What type of music did you hear the most back then? How does it differ from what you listen to now?

When I was growing up, my family always listened to very cool music. Music was a big part of everyday life. We listened to Pearl Jam, Guns N Roses, Aerosmith, Sheryl Crow- to name a few. I still listen to these artists often.

7. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

My songs are about a variety of things. A common theme is love. I enjoy writing about universal concepts that many people can connect with.

8. What do you feel distinguishes “an artist” from just a musician?

To me, an artist is someone who is truly passionate about their music and can truly move someone and connect on a personal level. A musician is someone who can simply play music.

9. How do you like to enjoy your relaxation time away from the music?

My idea of relaxation is spending time with family, traveling, and creating memories.

10. What image do you think your music conveys and why did you choose this type of image for your music?

I hope that my music is conveying an image of positivity. People interpret meanings of things in different ways. However, I hope that when it comes to my music, individuals are able to connect with it in a positive way.

11. Have you been involved in any benefit performances? What was it and how did you become involved?

I have been involved in multiple benefit performances for different charitable causes. I founded a charitable event called Music for Wishes. It is a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish foundation that has raised over $50,000 to grant wishes for children with life threatening illnesses. Music for Wishes was created by combining my passion for music and my desire to help others. The third annual event is planned for January 26th of this year, in my hometown of Somerset, Kentucky. The event will include dinner, silent auction and performances by Grand Ole Opry member Pam Tillis, along with Towne, The Broken Locals, Molly Porter, and of course, me.

12. If you had only five minutes on earth to perform one song that could leave a great impact on the world today, what song would you perform and why did you choose this particular piece?

If I only had five minutes on earth to perform one song, I would perform my original song “I Can Change”. There is so much turmoil in our world. I feel that anyone has the potential to change for the better if they have someone to believe in them.

13. When things seem to go negatively at times, how o you turn things into something positive?

When things go negatively, I try to learn from the negative experience. When appropriate, I use humor to create positive energy.
