The latest collection was recorded and mixed by Benjy Johnson at Earthtones Recording Studio and mastered by Ty Tabor. It was produced by the band and Benjy Johnson.

Rich Lerner and The Groove have been performing and recording music for many years in the North Carolina area. Rich recorded and released several solo albums on the Rockduster label in the early 90’s.

In 2000, Rich and The Groove released four more albums, aside from the four solo that Rich had recorded earlier with Rockduster, on their own label, Freethemusic.

Push On Thru” is funky, bluesy, and filled with rich rock blends of strong Americana alternative vibes. It is raw, pure and filled with evergreen nostalgic harmonies. The intro is hot, right from the start with heavy hard hitting percussion and vibrant guitar rifts. There is definitely a little Tom Petty there. Nicely done.

Instrumentally the band is exceptionally skilled and talented with heavy rock n roll driving rhythm, engaging stage presence and professional presentation.

A majorly energetic band the group does not single themselves out to one style. They can perform music of many styles and genres which is a testament to their versatility and skill as master musicians. Two high caliber performances by the band highlighted songs from the Rolling Stones, called “Exile on Groove Street” and a showcase of songs from the Grateful Dead called “Night of the Grateful Groove.”

I very much enjoyed “She Kept My Room Warm” with it’s bright and melodic acoustic guitar and crisp electric guitar solo. The harmonies were tight and delightful.

With a large list of songs and music in their stockpile of favorites you will most likely never hear the same song twice and no two shows will ever be the same. If you love The Grateful Dead, Tom Petty or The Band, you’ll truly enjoy adding Rich Lerner and The Groove to your vast collection of what I call “medicine for the soul.”

It’s Always Something” will make you jump out of your chair. As soon as it began to play I was bouncing out of my seat. Hot and heavy rocking and reminiscent of both The Grateful Dead and The Rolling Stones. Loved the rich deep bass. I’m a bass kinda girl. “They broke into my car and stole my guitar”….classic musician lingo.

Lord Have Mercy” moves in with a slow grooving almost bluesy jazz connection. Lyrics are clever, with depth and inject a soulful little vibe. It presents a refreshing groove without intention. It’s purely natural.

Each song on this album is solid in lyrics, instrumentation and vocal presentation. The caliber of musicianship is unmatched. This album is a can do whether your enjoying it on your car stereo or layed back in the shade with your headphones. No matter where you are your gonna move some part of your body. You’ll just have to. It is a memorable one and a must have in your music collection.

Musicians on this ten track collection are Rich Lerner on guitar & vocals, Sammy Smith, guitar & vocals. Following them you’ll find Craig Pannell on bass & vocals with Sam Seawell on drums. And Bob Sykes on the pedal steel & guitar and Steve Taub on the intoxicating keyboards.
