CD Review: Howard Lips, “Barrel Racer”

Veteran artist and Mississippi native Howard Lips at it again with a new album out on Adonda Records and HTi Music entitled Barrel Racer. Fused with traditional country, blues, and gospel influences, this record did not disappoint, taking it back while being timeless with every performance and song.  All songs on the record were co-wrote by multi-Grammy award winning engineer Tom Pick, who is also the chief engineer and a co-producer on the album.  Songs like “What Have I Done” reflect the sensitive writing of Lips while “I’ll Beg You For More” sees the more raw/blues sensibility that he was heavily influenced by throughout his childhood and life.  From the ageless musicality and writing of Howard Lips to the top notch engineering of legendary Tom Pick, Barrel Racer is a record that is a must listen.
