Two-Time Grammy Winner John Prine to Discuss New Book at Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on May 20

The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum welcomes renowned songwriter John Prine to the Ford Theater on Saturday, May 20, at 2:00 p.m. to discuss his new book, Beyond Words. Published by Oh Boy Records, the songbook features lyrics with guitar chords, stories, handwritten song drafts, and more than one hundred photographs from Prine’s personal collection.
“If God’s got a favorite songwriter, I think it’s John Prine,” said Country Music Hall of Fame member Kris Kristofferson, whose early 1970s discovery of Prine in a Chicago tavern helped catapult the former mailman into the national consciousness. Museum editor Peter Cooper will host Prine in conversation about his new book, songs, and songwriting. The program will provide a rare window into the process and personality of a writer who became a favorite of luminaries including Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Jason Isbell, Stephen King, and Roger Waters.
Presented in support of the exhibit American Currents: The Music of 2016. The Prine interview is included with museum admission and free to museum members. Seating is limited. Program passes are required for admittance and will be distributed two hours prior to the program start time. Prine’s book, Beyond Words, will be available for purchase in the museum store. The program will be streamed live at countrymusichalloffame.org/streaming.
