“This all started with me and some of my buddies who just wanted to get together and do something for the Mission. We never expected it to turn into this. We got a handful of fryers and turkeys, and went down there to cook and donated our time to help our community. Giving back is something that is very important to me. The growth of this event has been amazing to watch,” says Lawrence.
With help from fellow music, sports and entertainment celebrities and a host of volunteers, Lawrence will fry more than 500 donated turkeys again this year and meals, including side items, will feed men, women and children at the mission, and will also be boxed and delivered to those throughout the surrounding communities. The event has even inspired donations for other needs as well, including winter coats, clothing and other items. Statistics show that 42.2 million people in the United States are affected by hunger, and one in six Americans struggles daily to get enough to eat. Many are being forced to choose between food and other needs such as housing, medical care and medication. MISSION:POSSBLE is striving to help with this nationwide hunger epidemic by training communities to give back with Turkey Fry events across the country. The successful Nashville, TN event is being used as a model to promote giving in other areas of the country, neighbor helping neighbor, one hand and one heart at a time.
In 2016 Lawrence was honored by the Nashville chapter of AFP with “Philanthropist of The Year” for his dedication to the homeless and hungry in Middle Tennessee. Lawrence is expanding his efforts to help the hungry and homeless across the nation, with MISSION:POSSIBLE Turkey Fry events happening this again year in Dallas, TX with Dallas Rescue Mission and in Louisville, KY at Re:Center Ministries and other cities are slated to come on board in 2019.
