The 22nd Annual Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival kicked off in Nashville last night, and frigid temperatures didn’t keep revelers from making merry at packed clubs all over town.

Journey’s Jonathan Cain wrapped up the JACK-FM round with the Bluebird Café audience on their feet singing “Don’t Stop Believing.” Hit ABC-TV show “Nashville” star Eric Close (Teddy Conrad) dropped in to check out the scene. “Rhinestone Cowboy” composer Larry Weiss celebrated his birthday at the Bluebird Café late show.

The Listening Room Café was filled to capacity and had to turn people away at the door for both shows last night, while up the street at the Rutledge Live Music Venue Brett James, Lee Thomas Miller, Rivers Rutherford and Caitlyn Smith raised money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

First time Tin Pan South venue BB King’s Blues Club hosted two packed rounds, while Marc Beeson held court at Belcourt Taps with young writers Ella Mae Bowen, Ben Cooper and Melissa Fuller. Shay Mooney of the new hit duo Dan + Shay dropped by to perform at the Belcourt Taps late show.
Nick Foxer and Rachel Hutchison played their CMT Listener’s Choice winning song at the early show at Douglas Corner.

Highlights tonight include ACM and CMA-nominated hit songwriter Jessi Alexander at the Hard Rock Cafe Nashville early show with Josh Kear and newly signed IRS Records duo Striking Matches. “Family Man” Craig Campbell, Lance Miller, David Pack and Rhett Walker will be performing the early show at The Listening Room Café, and the ever popular round featuring Larry Gatlin, Vince Gill, Leslie Satcher and Bobby Tomberlin will begin at 9:00pm at the Station Inn.
