Layer Productions artist Paul Sikes’ music is making a difference in the lives of others. Paul’s heart-felt lyrics are taking him places that he never dreamed.

Earlier this summer the singer/songwriter/producer found himself in his usual writer’s round at The Bluebird Café where a very special guest was in the audience, Hoda Kotb, from NBC’s “Today” show. Hoda was very impressed with Paul and his music and invited him to perform on the show.

When Paul was performing on “Today,” a young lady, 9 year old Jessica Carscadden caught his appearance before leaving for school. Jessica too was impressed with Paul and with the help of her parents purchased Paul’s music. Soon Sikes’ song “A Seed” became a favorite of Jessica’s. Turns out, it’s really Jessica’s theme song.

Jessica Carscadden is a remarkable young lady. Having been adopted from another country to parents in the United States at the age of five, Jessica has endured the adversity of having a physical impairment and the surgeries to correct it. She knows first-hand that great things can happen if you just believe and she also has a special soft spot in her heart for children. Jessica decided to collect Teddy Bears for first responders (including firemen, policemen, emergency medical personnel, etc.) to give to young children who are scared or injured, in hopes that these bears might offer some comfort. To date, Jessica has donated more than 700 bears within her community.

Because of her contribution, Jessica was recently recognized by an organization called SACK (Simple Acts of Care and Kindness) www.simpleacts.org and a special presentation was made to her. As a surprise to Jessica, SACK invited Paul to come and perform “A Seed” live for Jessica. Jessica was so surprised and delighted to meet Paul and have him sing her favorite song.

“What an incredible experience this was for me. Jessica is a very special young lady and I am honored to have sung for her on her special day,” says Sikes, This is why I make music.”
