NMG’s Exclusive Music Video Premiere for Lloyd Carter’s “Hand You Hold”

During a time where the idea that tomorrow is not promised is far too real, Lloyd Carter has released his touching video for “Hand You Hold,” which brings the powerful message behind this song to life in hopes of shedding a new light on loved ones lost and appreciating the ones you still have.

“Hand You Hold” Is a very personal song that means a lot to the band. Feeling the need to pay tribute anyone who has lost someone, we wrote this song. As the world is very aware these days, we aren’t guaranteed tomorrow.  The video was directed by Avery Henley and filmed in a large empty theater in South Georgia. We truly pray this brings some comfort to anyone who’s lost a loved one and brings a new appreciation to the ones that are still here.

The story behind “Hand You Hold”

My dear friend, writing partner, and brother in music Gary DiBenedetto lost his beautiful daughter on February 7, 2016. She was just shy of turning 20 years old. Memarie DiBenedetto was such a beautiful part of Gary with all the charm, charisma, love of music and life that only a precious young soul could possess. This song and video is a special tribute to her, but it is also a special tribute to anybody who has lost anyone special in their lives. We take for granted that every day is just a given, not thinking about how our lives would be if we lost that certain precious person in the blink of an eye. All too often we get caught up in the rat race of daily life not taking the time to pause and really appreciate one another. Henry McGill penned this beautiful song that is tribute to such a lovely soul as he reminds us to be thankful and appreciate the ones that are so precious to us.

Lyrics and Sentiments From “Hand You Hold”

I would have to say the bridge, “We’ll Meet Again In Heaven, Oh What A Beautiful Day. Where Everybody Lives Forever And No One Ever Goes Away”

What an absolute beautiful line, myself losing a father and brother I miss them both so much.  I’m sure everyone has someone that they’re missing and what a lovely thought it is to be reunited with them never to be separated.

Honestly, I hope it brings comfort to anyone who’s lost a loved one and look forward to the day they will see each other again. I also pray that people realize how special every day is and it’s a gift to still have loved ones in their lives. None of us are guaranteed the next five minutes so be thankful for every moment you have with the ones you love.

Making of the Video for “Hand You Hold”

Of course we have a full band but this being such a special song for Gary I wanted it to be intimate. Gary is probably one of the strongest but most giving man I’ve ever met. I have to be honest we had to take a couple of breaks when we were filming as it was truly an emotional experience for all of us in that theatre. With that beautiful song and that big screen of home videos of Memarie I honestly don’t know how I would handle it if I were him. Gary is such a giving soul and he considers this song to be a gift to anyone that has lost a loved one.

You work with Avery Henley a ton, how is that? How did you two connect?

I absolutely love working with Avery and his family. You will never meet a harder working more creative person in the video industry. We actually met through a mutual friend in the restaurant business that thought we would work well together. I’m so thankful for the day that Big Nic Harden said “Hey Lloyd,I got this guy you need to meet.”

Reigning from a small town in Georgia, Lloyd Carter found his passion for music at a young age. Heavily influenced by artists like Keith Whitley, Steve Perry, Kenny Rogers and Conway Twitty, Lloyd gravitates towards songs that spoke to his emotions. A lover of traditional country music and all things romance, Lloyd has been busy working on his latest project – his newly released album called “Nothing to Lose,” which blends classic country style with some newer elements.

Tell us about growing up in Georgia and how that might have influenced your decision to become a musician.

I could not think of a better place to grow up than South Georgia. I grew up with my dad’s side of the family having a gospel quartet, and my mother managed a couple of radio stations.  I’ve  been an avid lover of music all my life and growing up in a musical family I guess you would say it was born into me.

What comes to mind when you think of Georgia music?

Georgia music has had so many influential performers throughout the years. Whether it was the R&B soul of James Brown and Ray Charles or the rock‘n roll stylings of the Allman Brothers. Such an amazing thought of all that wonderful music coming from the big house in Macon. We haven’t even scratched the surface of country music yet like one of my favorites, the one and only Jerry Reed.

As you look toward the rest of this year, and into next year, what would you like for your career?

I just hope that myself and the guys are healthy and able to still keep making music that people love. 2020 has been such a rough year on everyone, we miss so much going out and performing in front of our fans. A lot of folks have had struggles and losses this year, I’m praying things will be better for them in 2021.  I’m also looking forward to seeing you all soon out there at a live show. I’m so thankful to you all for following, liking, and sharing our videos as well on social media.
