Lucky 13 with Richard Lynch

You’d be hard-pressed to find a musician as authentic as Richard Lynch, whose traditional country music fully embodies his hay-raising, farm-dwelling lifestyle. An all-American, blue collar country man, Lynch has poured his heart and soul into the countless chart-topping hits he and his band have produced. His music is 100% real country, evoking some of the great classics who influenced him, like Keith Whitley. Conway Twitty, and George Strait. For three decades and counting, Lynch has written, sung, and performed his songs with passion and dedication, building himself up into an independent country music sensation. While his musical roots are grounded in pure country, his songs also showcase elements of western swing, rockabilly and outlaw country.

Nashville Music Guide had a chance to catch up with Richard for our “Lucky 13” feature…

Did you come from a musical background?

Yes, my Dad Woody Lynch was a well renowned country music singer in the southwest Ohio area.

How do you balance your music career with your other obligations in life?

It takes a lot of effort and coordination but I have good neighbors and family that help out.

What is a typical day/week like for you?

Busy taking care of farm and animals, baling and selling hay, usually planning music performances and writing songs, and more than likely travelling to gigs. Filming and recording also happen frequently, too. Besides doing interviews and visiting radio stations, I could also be assisting my wife with our other businesses — we have an auction business and as well as my wife has several tax offices.

What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

Stay true to your heart, don’t compromise your principles, and be persistent in pursuing your dreams.

If you had to do it all over again, would you still choose this career? Would you do anything differently?

I would always choose to play country music, it has always been in my heart to sing country music, I would have started sooner touring and recording more often.

What are 3 things that you have to have with you at all times/never leave home without?

My wife, my gun and my guitar.

How would you describe your music to someone that has never heard you before?

My music is real true country music.

What made you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?

I watched my Dad play with such people as Porter Wagoner and Bobby Bare, and that is what I knew I wanted to do.

How do you like to enjoy your relaxation time away from the music?

I enjoy fishing and being with my grandchildren and being on the farm.

What image do you think your music conveys and why did you choose this type of image for your music?

My music conveys my life and what I enjoy, country living, farming, all American values, down to earth and strong belief in God.

What are your up-to-date performance plans? New Releases? Tours ? News?

Double performances with Ronnie McDowell Jan 21st in Nashville to release our military tribute duet and perform on the Midnight Jamboree, also have a 6-week tour in south Texas late January thru February, then back home March 1st to play our local casino. Plus just finished recording vocals on new album including a great new duet song with Rhonda Vincent — whew that’s just thru early March. Stay tuned for more.

If you could perform with anyone in the world – either dead, alive, or broke up – who would it be? Why?

My Dad, I love and miss him dearly and he was awesome performer. Keith Whitley, my hero, I loved his style of singing. Conway Twitty because he is the ultimate performer.

Have you been involved in any benefit performances? What was it and how did you become involved?

I have been involved in several benefit performances. We continually perform benefits for our Love Tattoo Foundation to benefit our soldiers. Just did a local fundraiser for a cancer patient in our area and raised $10,000.

A few last thoughts with Richard Lynch:

Without music, I would be … not have any creativity

Music is …not just what I do it is what I am

My music makes me feel … accomplished

I write the songs because … they were inspired by an experience I want to share

Support music because … it is a gift to the world
