Mitch Goudy is the Country music newcomer who is making his way into the hearts of music fans of all ages. As one of the Country Music Association (CMA)’s Who New To Watch Artists for 2014, he is becoming one of Country’s hottest new stars rocking stages across the nation. Every time he picks up his guitar and starts to sing, you know this guy not only has the roots for authentic country music, but the heart to back it up.

With previous hits, “Blow These Speakers Out”, “Ain’t My Fault” (official music video on CMT.com and VEVO), and most recently “My Girl’s Hand”, Goudy is getting great recognition with his latest album #ROWDIE. He has been called “the new Brad Paisley,” “one of country music’s bright new stars,” and “the mainstream Michael Buble.” As a featured artist for the second year in a row at CMA Music Festival this summer, he got the chance to meet fans each day at his booth in the Fan Fair X Exhibit Hall, sign autographs and also perform non-stop throughout the week in venues around Nashville.

Goudy has a great relationship with his ever expanding group of devoted fans “Goudy’s Rowdies.” He hangs out every Thursday evening on the free fan membership site www.goudysrowdies.com. He also gets his fans involved in his career by hosting a #ROWDIEPARTY fan video contest and awarded the winners with their own #ROWDIEPARTY in their hometown. He also recruited his fans to submit photos for his lyric video for “My Girl’s Hand.”

Hailing from the cornfields of southeast Iowa, Goudy grew up with a sense of pride about who he is and a strong notion of what he believes. His interest in Country music began when he first picked up a guitar after suffering a traumatic knee injury that would forever limit his ability to play sports. His dad bought him that first guitar, put it in his hands and said, “Let’s see what you can do.” At that moment, Goudy found his passion and never gave up on it. Since then, he’s been rocking stages large and small across the country.

Nashville Music Guide had the chance to catch up with Mitch and have him be a party of our Lucky 13 Feature so that his fans and our audience could get to know a little bit more of Mitch in his own words.

NMG: What was the first song you ever performed?

Mitch Goudy: “God Bless The USA” in the elementary talent show.

NMG: Did you come from a musical background?

Mitch Goudy: Music has always been a huge part of my life.  My mom sang in church, and really pushed my two sisters and I to be involved in the music program in some way so I was in band + choir all throughout my schooling.

NMG: What would be your advice to artists that are new to the touring circuit?

Mitch Goudy: Treat every venue like a million bucks no matter what!  You want to keep that relationship and come back again. Plus, they probably know the next venue owner and chances are they talk.

NMG: What are 3 things that you have to have with you at all times/never leave home without?

Mitch Goudy: Phone, Laptop, Guitar

NMG: How would you describe your music to someone that has never heard you before?

Mitch Goudy: Innovative, Fresh, Different, Rowdie, Fun

NMG: What made you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?

Mitch Goudy: I always went to the County Fair and I got to go backstage because my Dad was on the fair board. Getting to meet Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Diamond Rio, etc. definitely gave me the bug.

NMG: As an artist, how would you define SUCCESS?

Mitch Goudy: Happiness + Abundance. (Work, Play, Family, Giving Back, etc.)

NMG: If you had the opportunity to change something about the music industry what would it be?

Mitch Goudy: I would make a more efficient way to travel … Like tube travel.  I love playing, but sometimes 20+ hours of riding gets to you.

NMG: Someone once said write what you would want to perform over and over. With that in mind, what song do you love to perform the most?

Mitch Goudy: “Into The Mystic” by Van Morrison

NMG: What are your up-to-date performance plans? New Releases? Tours ? News?

Mitch Goudy: Hybrid Country…that is all I can say.  Get ready!

NMG: If you could perform with anyone in the world – either dead, alive, or broke up – who would it be? Why? (Name up to 3)

Mitch Goudy: Frank Sinatra because his voice is legendary and I always have fun singing those songs. I would also pick Van Morrison because I’m a huge fan and would love to learn by playing alongside him.

NMG: If you had only five minutes on earth to perform one song that could leave a great impact on the world today, what song would you perform and why did you choose this particular piece?

Mitch Goudy: I would tell the whole crowd to be silent, and I wouldn’t play a thing for 5 minutes.  The message is that music is built upon quiet, and the notes and melodies are a representation of our lives.  I think sometimes we forget the impact of music, because there is never quiet to make music not seem like constant noise.  So I hope that message would come through and then music would have a bigger impact when it is played from then on.

NMG: Do you currently have an agent, endorsement, record label, sponsor, etc that you want to give a shout out to?

Mitch Goudy: Shoutout to Strut Apparel for making killer high fashion country clothing.  Seriously I don’t endorse anything I don’t love! I also recently partnered with the great folks over at Stay Outdoors. If you know me well, you know I love to be outdoors – I’ve written some of my favorite songs there.

Without music, I would be … Trying To Make It

Music is … Powerful.

My music makes me feel … Expressive.

I write the songs because … It’s My Nature.

Support music because … I believe artists have a huge impact.
