Lucky 13 with Cowboy Troy

After completing a busy stretch of touring, Cowboy Troy’s first release of 2017 is on the way. “Pork Chop,” his new single, is due out on February 10th, just in time for the holiday now appropriately known as ValenSwine’s Day.
When asked about the origin of his upcoming release, Cowboy Troy stated “Pork Chop started out as something we wanted to write as a comedy song and it turned into a party song.” This track will be featured on an album, yet to be titled, due out in the spring of 2017.
Since his album Saloons on Neptune came out in 2015, he has balanced his time between touring and raising his family while somehow managing to complete his MBA degree. Troy just had the honor of performing at several Inaugural events with frequent collaborator Big & Rich, wrapping up a “busy last week of six shows in four days in Nashville, Las Vegas, and Washington, D.C.”
During all the hustle and bustle, Cowboy Troy took a moment to do Lucky 13 with NMG:

Did you come from a musical background?

My father was a music major in college. Music was always around.

What are your musical influences?

Run-DMC, Charlie Daniels, Jerry Reed, Dwight Yoakam, The Eagles, Social Distortion, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?

Show up…be persistent…be professional.

If you had to do it all over again, would you still choose this career? Would you do anything differently?

I’ve wanted to be an entertainer since I was 13.

What would be your advice to artists that are new to the touring circuit?

Pace yourself. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

How would you describe your music to someone that has never heard you before?

Hick Hop is country music with rap vocal delivery.

What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Fun for the most part. I try to keep the mood light.

What do you feel distinguishes “an artist” from just a musician?

I think an artist is able to deliver a performance. The artist will interpret the meaning behind the song more than just reciting song lyrics or musical notes. The crowd can feel the energy when the artist delivers a performance.

Do you have other interests or talents you would like to share with us?

I like to cook.

How do you like to enjoy your relaxation time away from the music?

I spend time with my family, watch sports, and watch the news.

What are your up-to-date performance plans? New Releases? Tours ? News?

My new single “Pork Chop” releases on Feb 10th. New album in Spring. Tour all year.

As an artist, how would you define SUCCESS?

Being happy with what you’re doing.

Do you currently have an agent, endorsement, record label, sponsor, etc?

My Agent is Bob Kinkead – Kinkead Entertainment. I have an endorsement with Roper Apparel and my record label is Shakin’ Bacon Productions.
