Kyle Park: Not Just Another Texas Country Artist, Looking For A Mainstream Takeover

Becoming one of Texas’ rising country artists is not easy by any means, but Kyle Park has been turning heads ever since coming onto the scene. The Austin-born songwriter has been hitting the road for years, but now Park is taking it to the next level by releasing his brand new album, Make Or Break Me.

Park first picked up a guitar at age 14—which could be considered getting a late start with music these days—out of a necessity fill the void of living out in the Texas countryside outside of Austin.

“I grew up in the country, and I started playing guitar mostly because I was just bored living out there. I couldn’t drive then and all my friends at the time had their licenses, so I just picked it up and started playing and writing songs, “ Park says, and it wasn’t long after that when he starting playing professionally at the age of 15.

Park reminisces on his early gigs saying, “My first shows, I couldn’t drive. I had to have a parental guardian with me to drive me to all of my shows since all I was doing was playing bars in Texas. That’s how it all started.”

Growing up, Park listened to pretty much every genre of music, from country to rock, from western swing to mariachi, but he eventually honed in on the music of George Strait, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Merle Haggard. At a young age, Park began turning heads in the Texas country music scene, and ever since those early days, his original sound started to develop out of an influence of all these artists and genres.

His newest record, Make Or Break Me, certainly draws from all of his stylistic backgrounds.

“The album is definitely a country and rock record with some other elements. I don’t think it’s a honky-tonk or Texas country record either. It’s more of a mainstream type record, which is what I wanted. I want to play this record all around the world, and not just in one specific location or for one musical demographic.” Park continues, “All 15 tracks were all written or co-written by me, and it was also produced by myself as well, which is something I’m really proud of. “

Make or Break Me debuted high on the iTunes country charts, and the record is surely one to turn some heads. From the powerful title-track single “Make Or Break Me,” to ballads like “Any Day or Night,” this record has something for all listeners, and the quality and accuracy of the album doesn’t falter as the songs go deeper into it.

While Park just released his newest record, he is always looking at the future when it comes to his music, and he is already writing and performing songs that will be on his next release later on down the road. He believes today’s music scene and the whole business is changing, that consistent touring deserves consistent recording, and that giving fans new music quickly is the main objective. As for the coming months and the promise of regular releases, the idea is also to let fans in on the making of the next album. Park wants to know what they think of the songs in the release packages via the Web, and which songs they want to hear over and over.

The video for the first single, “Make Or Break Me” is now on rotation on GAC, and Kyle Park’s new album Make Or Break Me is available on iTunes. You can keep up with all of the latest news and tour dates on www.kylepark.com.
