The Iroquois Steeplechase has chosen John Stein, Bank of America Tennessee president, to serve as an honorary co-chair of the 73rd running, set to take place May 10, 2014.

Stein has built a long-standing relationship between the Iroquois and Bank of America that stems from his company’s passion for enhancing Middle Tennessee children’s healthcare. He has dedicated more than 20 years of caring service to the race and its beneficiary, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, where he is a current board member and a former president of the board.

“I am honored to be connected to the Iroquois, an event that supports a Nashville treasure in its mission to provide the best care for children in the region,” said Stein. “The Iroquois is a longstanding Nashville tradition, and I’m honored they asked me to serve as co-chair.”

Stein is a native of Sarasota, Fla., but has called Nashville home since his days as an undergraduate and graduate student at Vanderbilt University. Since then, he has continued to devote personal time to the Nashville community through various volunteer commitments. Stein currently holds an additional board position with Leadership Nashville and an Advisory Council position with the WO Smith Community Music School.

“John is an incredible asset to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital and the entire Nashville community,” said Dwight Hall, chairman of the Iroquois Race Committee. “He cares deeply for our cause and we are grateful for his support over the past 20 years—we couldn’t think of a more deserving person for this role.”

As president of Bank of America Tennessee, a company he has worked with for the past 38 years, Stein leads the bank’s local operations, as well as its national healthcare business.
