Roots music’s ability to bring people together has played an integral role in the genre since its inception. Today, long-time friends and music collaborators, Jesse Brock, Gary Filgate, John Miller, and Rob Ravlinare pleased to celebrate that notion with the announce of their newly formed group, Mainline Express.
Moving forward like a streamline locomotive, this set of musicians focus on creating pure American roots music with a purpose: providing listeners with original material soaked in tradition.
From the beginning of their friendship in 1989, Filgate (banjo/vocals) and Brock (mandolin/vocals) found equaled passion for their music, both performing in highly decorated and nationally touring groups. Brock’s career boasts a steady five year run with The Gibson Brothers, as well as time with Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, and two International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards for Mandolin Player of the Year (2009, 20015).
“I felt compelled to take charge of my career, set my proverbial sextant and navigate this boat in charted waters with a confident crew,” says Brock. “This isn’t my band, it is our band and we strive to set a new standard of excellence in both music and business.”
Filgate’s professional career includes time with Stonewall Bluegrass, Stan Tyminski and Blue Diamond Bluegrass. In addition to playing, he is the former owner of Acoustic Outfitters Music Shop, one of the premier all-acoustic music stores in the Northeast.
Fast-forward to the present, where they carry on that same passion with Ravlin (bass/vocals), and Miller (guitar/vocals).
Miller is a multi-instrumentalist, accomplished composer, songwriter, producer and recording engineer. His versatile career has seen stints with Junior Sisk and Ramblers Choice, J.D. Crowe and The New South, The Lonesome River Band, and more.Ravlin, an accomplished bassist, is a multi instrumentalist with a storied past and deep roots in Country and Bluegrass music. The group has teamed up with producer Dave Maggard at Sound Biscuit Productions (Sevierville, Tenn.) for their debut album scheduled for release this summer. Stay tuned for their first single releasing this March.
