New York City folk, singer/songwriter, and country artist April Martin recently released her new CD “In The Blink of a Life” and she’s receiving some rave reviews. This album is April’s second CD and she has done a phenomenal job.

They say that there is always a path to finding what your true passion is and there’s an old saying that goes back many years. “Never Judge a Book By It’s Cover”….and that’s what we need to do here. I’ll explain.

Growing up she always had a desire to be enveloped in the magic of music. She loved writing and composing her own songs but at that time she never wrote them down. She kept them all in her head. She loved going to the local candy with her Dad where he would give her a nickel and she would buy the newest song sheet for the week. Together they would learn the songs together. Eventually she would begin to write them down and then the true magic began.

After receiving her Ph.D in clinical psychology she began a very success practice in New York while still deep down enjoying a passion for creating beautiful music. April is a living example that we truly can accomplish great things and have dreams come true, all at the same time.

Her first album came about in 2010, called “Pennies In A Jar” and it took off like lightening. She rapidly gained fans worldwide especially with fans hearing her songs on internet radio. Now she’s released her second album. Filled with that life long passion, tenderness, a little humor and a lot of heartfelt reflection on life.

Our recommended track is “Heart Break Doesn’t Come” and you can take a listen at the following link:

In a million years I never imagined putting out a CD of songs I’d written. This was not even an aspiration of my long-ago youth, still smoldering behind midlife’s responsibilities. As far as I knew, I didn’t have a creative bone in my body and I’d made my peace with it. ~April Martin, Facebook~

Fans and other music reviewers have said that April is similar to Roseanne Cash, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and the amazing Carole King. But we’ll let you decide. If your a fan of Loretta Lynn or Gillian Welch your gonna love April Martin. Her style is simple yet elegant and she creates the most beautiful pictures with the lyrics of her songs.

After spending the biggest part of her life as a psychologist and a mother of three she began to hum those old familiar tunes again and there were new songs that came forth awakening in her that life long dream of expression through music.

There is an awesome group of musicians on this album. April Martin of course with vocals, guitar, and flute. Peter Calo, with guitars, and backup vocals. We have Chris Marshak on drums and Susan Didrichsen with backup vocals. We can’t forget Norbert Goldberg with percussion. The album was produced and mixed by Peter Calo and mastered by Scott Hull.

With every song I write I’m grateful to the people who trust me with their vulnerabilities and joys, to my children who made me understand love as never before, and to my dad who brought those wonderful songs into my young world.” ~April Martin~
