His use of bass, wind instruments, and guitar is compelling, bright, motionless and yet…..moving.

Fresh, funky beats and jazzy guitars along with flaming trumpets and jagged sax will take you back to the 40’s while standing firmly in the present.

‘Bombs Away” speaks out against violence in our societies and how it’s a big mistake that we are not paying attention to what we’re doing to our world.

Love the blend of horns and guitar. It has almost an African Funk beat. Love the lyrics.

Released in March 2014 this album is sure to rank high in the charts of indie artists with unique styles and expression. Darrin James is one of the best.

“Covert Mission” has a jazz like funk style to it. Again the use of drums and percussion along with the horns and wind instruments lends that esoteric feel to the mood of the song. This instrumental is deep and rhythmic.

Darrin James accolades include appearing at the famous 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville TN, he is a 3 time semi-finalist with the International Songwriting Competition, a lyric contest winner for American Songwriter Magazine and has also appeared at the infamous Southpaw in NYC.

James is a native of Kentucky and grew up in Metro-Detroit. While mastering his craft as a singer/songwriter and producer he lived in New York City and returned home to Michigan in 2010.

His inspiration draws upon his love of blues, jazz, and folk music of the south. He also has a love of the Motown classic soul sound.

After returning to New York and assembling a massive collection of exceptional musicians, he released “Thrones of Gold”, his debut album. This album received amazing reviews from radio and press, including television.

His style has been compared to Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, and the legendary Bruce Springsteen. He received much praise from Time Out NY regarding his edgy roughness and growling piano on “Had Enough of Me”, which included Colin Stetson, amazing solo tenor sax artist who performed with Alice and the Orphans.

From this same album his song “Crazy World” was heard by millions on the Emmy-nominated realty television show The Deadliest Catch.

“The Lovely Ugly Truth”, his second album, released in 2009 featured an out of this world horn section comprised of Kelly Pratt, Stuart Bogie, and Aaron Johnson who have performed on albums with David Byrne & St. Vincent as well as Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings.

Darrin has proved his ability to move mountains with music and this newest endeavor is reaching the top.

“Bombs Away” is out there, with his provocative lyrics, it is classic, it is aggressive and compelling. This album should be an eye opener of where we are in the power of freedom of expression.

Darrin James on Ravine Records is powerful, unpredictable, filled with soulful eloquence and rocking electricity. Visit the sites below for more information on his latest album and more.
