Country Rock Artist Diamonds and Whiskey Release “Dark Country Voodoo” to Mixed But Solid Reviews

Dark Country Voodoo” might be one of the best rocking country albums out this year for the watch lists. This country duo comes to you all the way from North Carolina and brings to music fans a new twist on Americana outlaw music.

Diamonds and Whiskey dare not to hold back on delivering some of the best up and coming tunes of the year. There’s not much of a cohesive theme to the songs, so they don’t follow a certain pattern but it’s the instrumentation and the vocals that hold it solid.

If this album was on a rating scale I’d give it a high 8 out of ten. There are 11 tracks on this collection. Each one is distinct and stands alone. “25 To Life”would be great as single release.

There is a harder, more raw edge to this album. It has a good southern mix and Jenny Webb’s vocals ground it in the Americana country genre. Plus it pulls in on a rock vibe with a hint of blues which as mentioned before allows it to flow into various classifications. It could easily fit in to the category of modern country.

I enjoyed the mix of fiddles, slide guitar, and the mix of distortions that pulled it all together. This album gives us a edgy, swampy, almost hillbilly country sound that could easily come from the dense Smokey Mountains or the swamps of the Louisiana bayou.

Rebel Child” is a fresh take on country rock. It was the first song I reviewed and it is why I placed this collection in the country rock category.

Heartbreak Queen” opens with a hot and heavy section of guitar rifts and driving electric sounds. Jennifer offers some steady and well balance vocals. Harmonies are well placed.

“We simply wanted to put out an album that tells a story, our story. It’s is a collection of songs that we hope will inspire others, no matter what life throws at them, with drive, focus and hard work, you will come out on the other side. We strive to inspire, with songs about real experiences. All killer, no filler!” ~ Diamonds and Whiskey ~

This album will present sounds reminiscent of various groups of artists like the Zac Brown Band, Tanya Tucker, Black Angels, Allison Kraus, and even Darius Rucker, Diamonds and Whiskey offer a huge mix of interests in their sound and lyrics so you will find a hint of one of your favorites in there for sure.

Several of the songs sounded very similar but “25 To Life” brought a fresh change. I enjoyed the strings and the guitar accompaniment. It was, for me, my favorite of all the songs on this collection. I loved the, almost south western feel of the open plains of Texas as a beautiful maiden was tempting a notorious outlaw. Very nice.
