Claire brings Holiday! to NashvilleThe Spirit of the Season Comes to Nashville as Claire Lynch Welcomes Special Guests

Beth Nielsen Chapman, Maura O’Connell and Skip Ewing

It will be a festive evening of fine music and holiday cheer when The Claire Lynch Band is joined by friends in Nashville this month. For a program billed as “The Claire Lynch Band & Friends HOLIDAY Concert,” Claire welcomes special guests Beth Nielsen Chapman, Maura O’Connell and Skip Ewing for an exclusive performance at City Winery Nashville.

Together, these four artists have almost more stellar awards and nominations than can be counted. The December 16th acoustic concert is guaranteed to be one of this season’s finest holiday offerings in Nashville.

Long recognized as a creative force in acoustic music, Claire Lynch is a pioneer and innovator who continually pushes the boundaries of the Bluegrass genre. She is a lifetime member of the Alabama Bluegrass Music Hall of fame, a Grammy nominee and multiple winner of the IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year Award. As a performer and recording artist, Claire Lynch has been at the forefront of exceptional work by women in Bluegrass. Her soulful songs have been recorded by Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea and others. Along with co-writer Louisa Branscomb, Claire recently accepted the IBMA Song of the Year Award for “Dear Sister.”

From writing hits for other artists to recording her own, twice Grammy-nominated Beth Nielsen Chapman, has truly embraced musical diversity. She’s penned numerous hits and written songs for many top artists including Emmylou Harris, Bette Midler, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Amy Grant, Waylon Jennings, Faith Hill, Willie Nelson, and many more. Her music has been heard on ER, Dawson’s Creek, Providence, Felicity and in movie soundtracks, including The Prince of Egypt, Message In A Bottle, The Rookie, Where The Heart Is and Practical Magic.

Maura O’Connell’s multi-decade singing career has brought her international acclaim, and two Grammy nominations. O’Connell has lent her incredible voice to the projects of such artists as Van Morrison, James Taylor, Nanci Griffith, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, The Chieftains and Roseanne Cash. O’Connell released a holiday single “My Irish Molly-O” that was on the compilation My Irish Holiday.

Skip Ewing has recorded nine studio albums, one of which was Following Yonder Stars, a Christmas project on which Claire sang on that also includes one of his biggest Christmas songs, “It Wasn’t His Child.” Skip has received awards from BMI, NSAI, and CMA for his work as a songwriter as well as Grammy and Tony nominations. His compositions had been recorded by artists like George Jones, George Strait, Charley Pride, Clint Black, Randy Travis, Collin Raye, Lorrie Morgan, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Suzy Bogguss, Diamond Rio, and many others.

The Claire Lynch Band – Matt Wingate, Bryan McDowell and Mark Schatz with Claire – has released a seasonal project that was recorded the way the holidays themselves should be enjoyed; in a relaxed environment and a spirit of fun, in Claire’s own home studio. In a collection that is at once jazzy, grassy, sweet and sassy, HOLIDAY! has something for everyone with traditional favorites like “Home for the Holidays,” “We Three Kings,” and the Hanukkah song, “In The Window” … all spectacularly arranged with that unique Claire Lynch Band twist.

The band’s take on the holiday tunes are reminiscent of an age when crooners crooned, the music had some swing, and Grandma stayed safely out of the reindeer’s path. Scrooge himself would be brimming with cheer at the Claire Lynch holiday show.

Prior to the Claire Lynch Band, Claire was in several other award winning groups in Bluegrass and also sang harmony on “The Grass is Blue” and “Little Sparrow” which led to promotional touring as backup vocalist for Dolly Parton.  She graced albums by other artists with her background vocals including Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Pam Tillis, Alison Brown, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea and Ralph Stanley.  Today, the impressive list of other guest appearances continues including spots on albums by Donna the Buffalo, Sara Watkins, the Gibson Brothers, Jonathan Edwards and Jesse Winchester.

Dolly Parton credits Claire with “one of the sweetest, purest and best lead voices in the music business today,” and longtime music critic and author, Robert K. Oermann says, “she sings like a hillbilly angel.” Her songs have been recorded by many artists and all of her albums, twelve to-date, feature Claire Lynch originals.

Holiday! is available now. It was released on Claire’s own label, Thrill Hill Records.
