If it’s Wednesday, it’s time for Chris Weaver’s weekly How Valid Is the Validity podcast.
Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT, Nashville singer, songwriter and bandleader Chris Weaver takes to the information superhighway with his weekly podcast to discuss, well, whatever happens to be going on at the moment, and whatever his guests and callers want to talk about. From music to sports to alcohol, Weaver and his guests, who can include singers like Jerrod Niemann, Dustin Lynch and Shawn Mayer, as well as sports figures like Tennessee Titans color analyst Dave McGinnis and former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, basically have a good time shooting the bull in the third season of the podcast from Weaver’s home studio.
Weaver is best known in Nashville as a singer and bandleader who’s got some serious chops, whose band mixes southern rock, blues, country and pop to not only entertain audiences with cover music from Nashville to South America, but to also produce some notable original music. Weaver has also been known to be somewhat opinionated socially and politically, but for his podcast, he dials it back a little.
“I was definitely more political in the beginning, and I definitely lean right,” he said. “But the more I’ve done it, the more I’ve realized that, unless you want to be a pundit, a real political person, there’s no real sense in doing [the podcast] that way. So I just try to keep it about the guests, and about current events.”
While Weaver is still producing original music, he’s also a working professional who is always looking for new opportunities, and is currently developing those opportunities with a major resort company. “Our last single [‘Lord Have Mercy on Them Angels’] came out a few weeks ago, but I’m not sure how much that’s my thing at the moment,” he said. “I’m still putting original music out because there are still some people who care. But lately corporations have started opening up again and we’re starting to travel more, and I got hired by Westgate Resorts, at their River Ranch Resort outside Orlando, to bring Nashville to them. I’m starting this Nashville Writers Series once a month down at the saloon there, it’s going to be very similar to the Bluebird vibe. I’ve got hit songwriters and artists coming down once a month for the next six months. They ultimately want to do these Songwriter Series shows at different properties across the country. The full Chris Weaver Band will also be playing down there, and at other Westgate properties as well.”
“They’re a big company and they want good entertainment,” he continued. “So our band will be seven, eight pieces sometimes, it’ll depend on what the show is. My job is to bring talented groups down from Nashville, to bring them that Broadway vibe, and to get great writers for them. And it’s not going to just be country music, it’ll be the whole array of music.”
This is all, of course, contingent upon what happens with the Covid-19 virus and its various strains. But in the meantime, Weaver still plans to be having a good time behind the broadcast mic on Wednesday nights. You can tune in and call in to his podcast at www.hvvcast.com.
