Patrick Ames has been part of the inspiring world of music since he was 14 years old. He is not a new-by or an oldie but a goody, he is a rare jewel in the midst of musical mastery.
In 1968 at the age of 14 he inherited his first guitar and began writing songs. Along with the guitar he also inherited an amazing collection of dozens of classic albums that belong to his older brothers. During his own college days he performed and continued to write. He eventually went into book publishing in 1976. Now in his early 60’s, Ames has returned to his writing, seasoned and knowledgeable with decades of ascribing his lyrics. His new EP has five infectious tunes for your listening pleasure.
“While We Were Making Babies” is the opening song on this EP. This song is described as a Top 40 Radio hit, it is pure and true to Ames and his style. “I Want You” has an R&B vibe and genuine performance, the passion involved in his music is engaging. “Queen Kae” is hypnotic. I immediately fell in love with the soft choral group of harmonies. The acoustic guitar is soothing and romantically filled. “Queen Kae” moves to the ten top list of my favorite classical/crossover Latin Instrumentals. This song was written for Patrick’s mom. The following for your listening pleasure is a rocking style, bluesy gospel tune that will get you grooving.
The fun in making this music is apparent, with a strong visual through the video’s and the love and laughter in every word through the rough tracks, the retakes, and solids. Patrick Ames, Chana Mathews, and Makaila Matthews are priceless. They exude what the essence of a love for music is all about…Raw…Regal…and Real. I love it.
This collection takes you through a kaleidoscope of genre’s yet holds a tight consistency. It’s not scattered it’s well defined and well mixed.
There’s suspense, unforgettable melodic moments, and a brightness that softens the yearnings and sadness.
“You can compare Ames’ music to Bob Dylan, Tom Petty or whoever, but I hear him as a unique indie artist that is being overlooked by the masses. He’s doing all the right things, NOW! He’s writing, releasing new music and gigging to support that music, including promoting it online. You can be assured that he is going to keep releasing new music so keep your eyes and ears peeled. He is truly defining his own grassroots, alt-folk rock genre focused on great songs driven by feeling and acting on the emotions in his music.” – JoeJoe Keys, Indie Music Plus
“The 61-year-old musician and owner of a vineyard in the past decades has contributed to the preservation of the folk and Americana sound in the California music scene.” ~Rootstime.be (Netherlands and Belgium) ~
What a little gem…slightly odd and sweetly original, Patrick Ames’s EP “All I Do is Bleed” is a magical glimpse inside a warm, thoughtful and strangely familiar mind. ~ Samantha Simmonds-Ronceros ~
The rawness of Ames’ voice combined with the sinful voices of Mikaila and Chana Matthews, comes together to create a unique sound that carries the grit of Tom Petty with the allure of a Spanish folk song. The result is an EP that is carefree, peaceful, and wonderfully meandering as you follow Ames on a musical drift through time and space. ~ATWOOD Magazine, Carolyn Fasone~
Patrick Ames sours on guitars, midi-guitar synth, vocals while Chana Matthews and Mikaila Matthews sound ethereal on vocals. Paulo Augustin Rzeszut also lends his talents on guitar. Patrick Ames slides nicely into the styles of R& B/Pop/Classical Crossover and Latin Folk and has been likened to artist such as Tom Waits, Sting, and Wilco.
