A Southern Women of Music Showcase

Review by Katharine W. Poole 4/2016

WMMW rocked the house of the Southern Women’s Show  Nashville this weekend with a trifecta of talented female artists! The stage performances included both unplugged solo acts and a rockin’ blues band.

Spotlight performances had SWS attendees tapping their toes, clapping, dancing and even singing along as they took a break from the pampering products and shopping experiences of this fabulous event.

Friday afternoon kicked off with a beautiful acoustic spotlight on Ashlee K. Thomas playing an original set.  Her sensual, soft and lyrical voice beautifully accompanying this talented artist’s stories in song, giving the afternoon a soothing vibe.Ashlee SWS performance BW

Sunday afternoon, wrapping up the Mother/Daughter Day at SWS brought rousing performances by both The Cat Beach Band and Karen Waldrup.  Cat Beach took the stage and captivated the room with her incredible sultry blues.  She was accompanied by band members:  Andre Madatian ripping solos on guitar; Dale Hunter rockin’ the keys with expertise; Jodi Anna grooving on the bass and Jason Cohen’s glorious soulful drumming.

The uptempo afternoon culminated in an impromptu collaboration of band and artists sharing the stage for the first time. After her own crowd stopping acoustic set, Karen Waldrup took the stage with Cat’s band, performing her own KarenBayou Baby – a seductive, bluesy uptempo ballad highlighting the blonde bombshell’s New Orleans roots – complimenting band and singer alike.  The Cat Beach band then closed with their ever vibrant shout out to Nashville with Soulshine Pizza.  Always a crowd pleaser!
