The Melismatics at the Basement

On tour out of the Twin Cities and rolling into Music City this past July from a previous night’s show in Chicago, the Melismatics did what they do best. They Rocked! From their first song to the last, The Melismatics cranked their Power Pop music out with authority delivering to their Nashville fans a very solid, tight, and all original show. Four of the Twin Cities finest musicians, they did St. Paul and Minneapolis proud, as they played songs off their latest of five CD releases, “The Acid Test”, produced by John Fields (Jonas Brothers, Switchfoot, Clay Aiken, Jimmy Eat World) and recorded half in Minneapolis and half in California.

The Melismatics are: Songwriter Ryan Smith on lead and harmony vocals and guitar, Pony Hixon Smith, (Ryan’s wife) on keyboard, guitar, lead and harmony vocals, Mark Wade on bass guitar and harmony vocals, and Ron Caron on drums and percussion. Together since 2000, in 2008, they won the grand prize in the Lollapalooza Last Band Standing contest and played this huge outdoor festival. A few weeks ago they opened for Joan Jett and their music has been heard on NBC, ESPN, and MTV, with over 380,000 fan visits to their page on myspace.

Their last video, (Ryan’s 1st was in 1999), “Digging Deep”, was featured as Video of the Day on Fuse.tv back in March, at the same time they were showcasing in Austin, TX for SXSW. Channel 4, WCCO TV in MN, did a feature story on Pony’s music and how she became a musician having been raised by deaf parents, right before the Melismatics left for Austin. “Digging Deep” was also chosen by international open fan voting, as MTVU’s “The Freshman” video of the week, and is still on regular rotation reaching #4 on MTVU’s Top 10! Visit the Melismatics on line at www.melismatics.com and you’ll be glad you did because they’re one of the best indie rock bands in the USA, for sure.
