Music fans were first introduced to Rissi Palmer in 2007 when she released her debut album that garnered national recognition in notable publications such as Ebony, GIANT, Huffington Post, Parade, People, New York Post, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal and many more. The album’s three singles, “Country Girl,” “Hold On To Me,” and “No Air” all became hits on Billboard’s Country charts, making her the first African-American female to have a song on the country charts in 20 years.
Palmer, who presently lives in the Raleigh/Durham area, has performed at the White House and the Grand Ole Opry on numerous occasions, and her self-penned songs have appeared in the TV series, Saving Grace, Army Wives, and Heartland, as well as in the feature film The Woodsman starring Kevin Bacon. In 2013, she released her first children’s record titled Best Day Ever, with the title track set to appear on an upcoming Hallmark family compilation.
In May, Palmer released The Back Porch Sessions, a 5-song digital EP she describes as ‘southern soul’. The collection was produced by Drew Ramsey (India.Arie, Jonny Lang) and Shannon Sanders (Randy Travis, John Legend) and features all original songs. Palmer says the songs are all a blend of her early musical influences — from Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton, to Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Al Green. The EP is available worldwide via major digital retailers including iTunes and Amazon.
